It shows a Browser Helper redirector that I was worried about and listed in my list of questionable stuff(list attached in a previous post in this thread). I have both Internet Explorer 8 and Mozilla Foxfire don't know if this affects how Java is used.You can tell I am inexperienced. I had Malware Bytes take out Adware.MyWebSearch, and I updated Java 6 Update 12 to Java 6 Update 15. Harry48, I did not use ccleaner as I am afraid of it. Do I need to remove this and uninstall Hijack This before using "yours"? If you have not used CCleaner in the earlier steps, what do you do now? Question: how do you know if you have something to remove? I notice that older Java removal is listed after Getting new version, Evilfantasy. I did this via the Control panel (Does this matter?) and went from Java 6 Update 12 to Java Update 15. I will attach the log for Malware Bytes that found something. I have googled Adware.MySearch and am not sure what to believe about this. The one after uninstalling McAfee is the one that found anything.
I ran this after uninstalling McAfee and after Avast installation. Do you really only need those 3 items checked off. Step 3: SuperAntiSpyware: I ran this and it took almost 24 hours. Step 2: I skipped this step as I do not know if you can avoid using the Registry feature while running CCleaner Slim.

The other was on PC World and it looked like a "hijack of a website" or attack of Fake Antivirus 2009. It states "your current request is being processed". The website in question is changing things and I do not know if the message is legitimate, although the website is highlighted in Internet Explorer 8.
Also the most frequent browser message has appeared again. I stopped looking at what I had allowed as to browser helpers etc in McAfee as I am confused by what I read about them.

Step 1: I have checked to see what is listed in Programs and features in Windows Vista and listed what I don't recall installing or question if it is needed under the circumstances. Assuming what it cannot scan isn't supposed to be scanned, I guess it is otherwise ok. Avast has updated its files and the program itself. There are problems with using the component for Internet Mail it locks up Windows Mail,but allows access to the internet. Step A: I have installed Avast 4.8 and have temporarily kept Windows firewall for the firewall. I am not finished with my checking of stuff, but here is a note of progress. (6) I don't know much about protocol, ports,TCP/IP, addresses and firewall settings/rules. (5) Must one's antivirus/suite be off when updating or rolling back Internet Explorer? I have never done anything about this.

(3) When uninstalling McAfee after return to Internet Explorer 7 (if required) is rebooting required after the Add/Remove procedure and after the use of the removal tool? (2) Does having McAfee and Internet Explorer 8 mean that I need to go back to Internet Explorer 7?

(1) which would install first Avast or a free firewall? I have not tried to uninstall the AVG antivirus or the Nero software.Īny help would sure be appreciated as I have a lot of music on the CD's that I can't get back.I have been researching firewalls and antivirus programs and I am concerned that I need something compatible with Internet Explorer 8. During the boot after loading the Roxio programs, when I hit control/alt/del, it showed that an AVG file was not responding and then when I tried to end the task, it locked up. Same problem when I tried to load a Roxio vers. Each time, I used Restore to go back to a point before that and computer worked OK without the Roxio programs. After restarting in safe mode, I removed that file, the computer worked OK. I also replaced the CD/RW and loaded the Nero OEM suite that came with it but when I tried to load my music files, they tried to load a Roxio file of some sort which locked up the computer. I loaded the latest version of AVG antivirus. I had saved all of my music files to CD using Roxio Easy CD & DVD creator vers. After a virus (trojan) problem, I gave up and formatted the hard drive and reloaded all programs.
